How do I look after my log cabin?
Time in the Garden cabins are manufactured from slow-grown spruce wood. Wood is a natural product, with imperfections giving it character. It is normal for wood to expand and contract with changes in temperature and the moisture content of the air. Over time, this movement can cause cracks and gapping to appear. This is normal and does not affect the strength of your cabin.
With regular maintenance and treatment these affects will be lessened and your cabin will be in great condition for many years to come. We offer a range of factory treatment options to give your building the best start. More information on these can be found here. Alternatively, your building can be delivered untreated if you intend to treat or paint it straight away. We recommend using a moisture regulating stain or paint for best results.
Should you opt to have your log cabin pressure treated, this will prevent rot but will not inhibit weathering. Your building will require a protective treatment or paint to be applied once it has been installed.
What do I do if there is a problem with my log cabin?
In the unlikely event you experience any problem with your Time in the Garden log cabin, please contact us and we will endeavour to resolve it for you.
Please find below some common concerns in respect of log cabins for your information.
Movement – Wooden buildings expand and contract with changes in air temperature and humidity levels. To do this properly, the wood needs a little room to move. Common problems are caused by nails and screws secured into the walls, windows or doors preventing the natural movement of the wood.
Pooling – Our flat roof cabins only have a very slight slope. During and after long or heavy periods of rain, water may pool on the roof. This does not affect the integrity of the roof.
Electrics – If you want to use your log cabin year-round, you will most probably want to install electrics for heating, lighting, and power. We always recommend using an electrician who has experience with working on log cabins to ensure electrics are installed in such a way to allow for the natural movement of the wood.
What is the guarantee on my Log Cabin?
